{ Princess with an Attitude }

 I had an absolute blast working with Kenzie and her Mom, Joanna, last night. It was quite a twist from my usual work, but we completely ran with it. Although the look we were going for was a little more dark and “goth,” Kenzie’s natural beauty still shined. Heavy makeup and dark clothing can’t hide this stunner!

{ fairies- part 2 }

I had soooo much fun taking these pictures. I think I had almost as much fun editing them. I tried out something new for me. I applied textures, by the wonderful Jessica Drossin,  to some of the images. I have admired the textured images of other photographers for a while now, but never really had an image that just made me crazy to try it myself. Well, these adorable fairies were just what I needed to give it a go. I’m glad I did. I’m in love with the technique now. :)

{ what to wear }

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

I get questions all the time about wardrobe. What should I wear?, What should my husband wear?, etc. This week, the extremely talented photographer, Kelsey Anderson, is a guest blogger on another photography website, MCP actions. She posted a GREAT tutorial for family outfits. So, go check out this wonderful visual guide. :D

No post without a pic! Here is my gorgeous niece, Jade, in an example of my senior sessions.

Also, this dress is available to be used as a prop for a senior session.

Ok, so I know I JUST posted this pic yesterday. Well, I saw today that the theme this week over at  i {heart} faces  is PLAY. So, I just couldn’t resist entering this sweet, fun image of our fairies playing ring-a-round the rosies. :) If you are new to my blog, scroll on down for the full sneak peek.

Practice makes perfect. While I am far from perfect, I do like to practice every chance I get. Every once in a while, I like to do a shoot for pure fun. Today’s play date was one of those days. I got the idea for it several months ago while riding in the hunting club with my husband. (Yes, we are “southern”:) I have an idea for another one in the woods, but it will have to wait for cooler weather. I digress…

Thanks to three beautiful, sweet little girls, who also happen to be the best of friends, I had my models. Thanks to the creativity of the moms, I had the costumes. We didn’t see any snakes. The yellow flies left us alone, too. The most exciting part of the day was mud-bogging in the minivan. Looking at the images we captured, I can say that it was totally worth it! Don’t you agree?!?  :)

I had a sweet session with Miss L this morning. Wow! She has grown soooo much since I have seen her last, but still just as pretty. I enjoyed spending time with her and her Mom, my beautiful cousin, this morning. I hope you enjoy the sneak. :) Good luck with your recital!

Congratulations to Miss Jaycee on her success in the Fresh Faces of Georgia pageant today.  She also won the most photogenic category with one of her images from our recent photosession. This makes 4/4 for Southern Expressions Photography photogenic entries:)

{ Welcome to the Jungle }

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

and welcome to my new blog! I have been looking to make a new blog because I didn’t like the compression of my images on the old blog. Well, what better way to introduce my new, improved blog than with images from a super cool, funky, “wild” shoot;-) Enjoy!

That’s what we have named this dress. (Thanks, Heather) Yep, we named a dress:) It’s very original, too. Don’t you think? lol. Anyway, these are Jessie’s pics. I think she did beautifully. Of course, she has her mother’s genes… carbon copies!
We had a lot of fun doing all of these shots. Then, we had an idea, kinda like a “where’s waldo?” sorta thing:) We want to see how many different places we can take Scarlett for pictures. We will only use shots where the full face isn’t seen. This way, we can put different girls into Scarlett. We want only the dress to be the focal point. This little project is for artistic value only… unless we come up with other ideas;-) So, if you have any great, unusual, or just plain cool ideas… leave a comment below!
